US Citizen Voters

Hello American citizens in Italy!

Trieste is in the US Consulate General Milan consular district.  Many matters can be handled via email or mail.
If you have an issue that must be managed in person, American citizens can go also, go by appointment, to US Consular Agency Venice for US Citizens and US Citizen Services at the US Embassy Slovenia

As you know this is a Presidential Election Year.
American Citizens can vote. Wherever they are.

Some advice:
  • Register to Vote and Request your Absentee Ballot at www.fvap.gov
  • Vote as soon as you receive your ballot
  • Return your ballot ASAP

By Federal Law, absentee ballots should be sent out at least 45 days prior to Election Day.
Technically that means that on September 19th this year, your ballot might already be in your email In Box.

Returning ABSENTEE BALLOTS:

  • A few states allow you to return your ballot by email or fax. Check to rules for your state.

  • At No Charge American Citizens can drop off their completed ballots in the American Corner Ballot Box in Piazza Sant'Antonio Nuovo, 6 - Trieste.  Ballots will be sent weekly to the US Consulate General Milan and then to directly to the US via diplomatic pouch. The mailing for the Consulate departs on Monday mornings at 9 a.m.: Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26
  • Use the OFFICIAL Absentee Ballot Envelope Template that you received with your ballot, to return your Absentee Ballot.  Print it, glue and tape it to a regular envelope if your printer won't take envelopes, or it is the wrong size.
    • US Embassies and Consulates will stamp your envelope with a US Postal Service postmark at their internal post offices when they receive them.
    • Upon arrival in the US, the ballots are placed in the US Mail.
    • Here are other mailing options:
      • Send your ballot directly to the US by Italian Mail.   Remember to apply Italian Postage.
      • Send your own ballot to the US by express mail. You will need to pay for the service yourself.
    Follow up:
    • Many states offer Tracking Numbers so you can check online with your Board of Elections to be sure if your ballot has arrived.
    • It's getting late and I haven't received my ballot, or it hasn't been registered in the tracking system.
