La Donna della Mia Vita - Le Vie delle Foto

La Donna della Mia Vita / The Women of our Lives

Collaborative Photo Exhibit in Le Vie Delle Foto
April 1- 30, 2017
Associazione Italo Americana FVG / American Corner Trieste
Piazza Sant'Antonio Nuovo, 6 - Trieste
Mornings:  Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday - 9-12
Afternoons:  Monday to Friday - 4-7 pm

For the second consecutive year the Associazione Americana FVG / American Corner Trieste is participating in the Le Vie delle Foto exhibit.  High School Students from the Abbington Friends School in Philadelpia and from Trieste prepared this exhibit with the aid of photographer Erin McKinney, and their teachers Erin Russo, in Trieste, and Donna Russo, in Philadelphia.

The project, called "La Donna della mia Vita - the woman of my life", is inspired by the recent Women's March held in many U.S. cities and Women's HERstory Month.
Italian and American students were asked to do make a portrait of a female figure important in their lives and then to tell, with an open letter, the reason for their choice.

The American photographer Erin Mckinney took photos of students from Italy, while the American students have experimented with different photographic techniques for their portraits. The exhibit will be shown simultaneously in Philadelphia and Trieste.

Shania Hicks, film maker, followed the project behind the scenes and produced 3 related videos.

This Exhibit was made possible thanks to the support of the U.S. Embassy to Italy.

The Politics of Migration

Piazza Sant'Antonio 6 - Triese
Ingresso Libero - Free and Open to the Public

Assessing cultural and financial implications of refugee arrivals in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia at the Municipal Level The purpose of this Fulbright research is to investigate the impact of refugee arrivals on the municipalities of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and to determine to what extent the presence of refugees in these areas is driving the political narrative and decision-making surrounding migration policy. At the same time, the research will analyze the firsthand accounts of refugees living in the Italian asylum system in the region of Friuli to gauge how the political outcomes are directly impacting the lives of refugees. The research will use assessments following interviews with political leaders, aid organizations and other relevant actors involved in migration policy making throughout the region. At the conclusion of the Fulbright research period (July 2017) the outcomes will be used to identify the role of politics in the migration crisis in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and its impact on refugee communities, minority populations and the asylum system in Italy as a whole.
