OCTOBER =AMERICAN FILM SERIES and HALLOWEEN.  Hello to new readers and new members!  Not a 2019/20 Member yet?  You can come to the office and renew or become a new member.  The theme this month is Italian American Heritage.  Remember to renew your membership!

OCTOBER – ITALIAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH – Documentaries and Readings.  There are over 16 million people in the US of Italian origin!  Programs include
The Italian Americans – Award Winning PBS Documentary Series (2015)

22/10, 10 am - Short Story Club – We will discuss Italian American Internment in the US during World War II.  Article Smithsonian Magazine and an excerpt from Suspect Love, novel by Lawrence DiStasi. 

Tuesday, November 4th is Election Day in the US.  If you have not done so yet, request your Absentee Ballot from your Home State Board of Elections.  Vote and return your ballots ASAP so you are sure that your vote will count.  Info at:  www.fvap.gov
Social Security Representatives from Rome might be in Trieste this Fall.  If you would be interested in an appointment, send an email to  aia.fvg@gmail.com. 

We are an association.  In order to participate in members only events, attend the American Film Series, take a course, check out library materials, you MUST be a 2019/20 MEMBER. 
Our 2019/20 Membership Year began on September 1st. 
Here is the Membership Form.  If you have been a member in recent years, we can quickly upload your data in the office.  Membership prices remain unchanged.  Euro 25 – Ridotto for Students 16 and over, Teachers and 65 and over.  Euro 35 – Intero.  Membership is valid until August 31, 2020.    Questions? aia.fvg@gmail.com

39th AMERICAN FILM SERIES at Teatro dei Fabbri – Via dei Fabbri  -Shows at 1:30, 4, 6:30, 9 pm
The 39th American Film Series begins on October 24th. You can renew your Membership Cards now.  9 great films including:  BlacKkKlansman, Green Book, Old Man & the Gun.  Admission to Films for Members Only.  No single tickets sold.

AIA FVG ENGLISH COURSES

2019/20 COURSES began the Week of SEPTEMBER 16th
In the FALL Session, new students will not be added after the 1st week of October.  There is limited availability.   You missed Fall?  Never fear, in December we will accept new students for Winter.


The week of Oct. 21-26 we will celebrate HALLOWEEN in the CLASSROOM.  Wear your costume to class if you would like.  Your teachers will give you more information closer to the date.

TEDDY BEAR PROJECT – Integration through Entrepreneurship
Join the tailors and the volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday morning to stuff, cut, sew.  Refugee Bears make great gifts! Look at our Refugee Bear Migration Map.  Tell us where your bear is and we’ll add your location to the map!  Send us a picture and the location of your teddy bear.  Follow the Refugee Bears on Instagram and Facebook . Refugee Bears make great gifts!  New Product:  Refugee Bear Draw-String Bags.  A call for fabric donations and large buttons!  Non-stretch materials please. 

VOLUNTEERS
We are a Volunteer Run Non-Profit Association. Volunteers run our Library, American Corner Programs and Activities.  We are looking for Volunteers to Work at the Cinema, Help with our Morning Activities at the Front Desk and in the Library, TESOL Speakers, Teen Maker Space Mentors, Assistants for Nati per Leggere. 

Send us an email and we’ll find a role for you.  University of Trieste students in Humanities, P.R. and other majors can earn with us (CFU).  We accept students with a minimum of 75 hours (3 CFU).  You'll have a great experience and improve your English, while you also learn valuable life and people skills.  High School Students can also do Alternanza Scuola Lavoro.  Contact us! aia.fvg@gmail.com 

AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE – Since 2007, we have been part of the American Spaces Network.  Programs, consultation of the library, public internet access computers, and Wi-Fi are always Free and Open to the Public.  A great place to study, meet friends, bring your kids.  Specific sections of the library are dedicated to Educational Advising, Children’s Corner Library and Women’s Space.  Consult our on line catalog of Books and DVDs.   The American Corner also offers Life Skills in English Courses for Refugees and Case Workers thanks to a U.S. Department of State Grant and the US Diplomatic Mission to Italy.  The American Corner promotes the Teddy Bear Integration through Entrepreneurship Project, encouraging professional refugee tailors to use their skills to produce the beautifully unique teddy bears, using recycled materials.
