MAY – This is EXPO 2015 Milano Month Dedicated to FOOD 2.0!  Documentaries, Short Stories, Family Film in theme.  Check our blog and Like our Facebook Page to keep track of all the appointments!  Think Summer!  Registration is open for Summer STEAM and May Weekend Warrior Intensive Courses.

AIA FVG SPRING COURSES
NEW !!  WEEKEND WARRIOR  FULL IMMERSION ENGLISH for ADULTS –May 23-24.  – 10 hours of intensive English over the weekend. OBJ – Fluency!  Too busy during the week?  This is for you.  Start communicating in English, fast!   Contact us:  aia.fvg@gmail.com or call 329 01 10 424.

SUMMER STEAM WEEKS for Kids and Teens - RESERVE EARLY - Space is limited. 
STEAM Weeks:  exciting, hands-on learning opportunity for young people, applying integrated skills and Project Based Learning with emphasis on the STEAM curriculum areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) in English.  You will learn by doing, and having fun…in English.  The groups are divided by class level:  Pre-School, Elementary, Middle and High School, with thematic weeks. For both Native and Non -Native Speakers.

Summer INTENSIVE Weeks and Weekend WARRIOR Full Immersion Courses for ADULTS – What you need, when and how you need it.  We also offer Individual Lessons.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES include:  Summer Reading Competition, Kids Book Club, Summer Films, Independence Day Celebration.

Food as Reflected in American Cinema.  Zero Calories and Lots of Satisfaction.  Original Version with English subtitles.
May 4 - Big Night - 1996, 107 min.  written, starring and directed by Stanley Tucci. Two Italian brothers try to save their failing restaurant with one special night.
May 11 - Julie & Julia - 2009 - 123 min. with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. Julia Child's story of her start in the cooking profession is intertwined with blogger Julie Powell's 2002 challenge to cook all the recipes in Child's first book. 
May 18 - Ratatouille - 2007, 111 min. Animation. A rat who can cook forms an alliance with a chef in a famous restaurant.
May 25 - 
Waitress - 2007, 108 min. with Keri Russell. Jenna is an unhappily married waitress in the South, until she meets a newcomer to town and dives into a new relationship.

May 7 Lidia Bastianich Celebrates America:  WEDDINGS: SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING NEW (PBS 2012, 60 min.)  Weddings in America are as diverse as the nation itself.
May 14 Lidia Bastianich Celebrates America: FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE  (PBS 2013, 60 min.)  How different cultures celebrate Independence Day in the US . 
May 21 Lidia Bastianich Celebrates America:  HOLIDAY TABLES and TRADITIONS (PBS 2011, 60 min.) Ethnic communities in the US and their holiday traditions as celebrated in America. 
May 28 – Lidia Bastianich – NONNA TELL ME A STORY (20103, 30 min.)Lidia’s remembers her own holiday traditions in Istria as a child.

ITALIAN SURVIVAL CONVERSATION GROUP for ITALIAN LANGUAGE LEARNERS – Open to the Public - We have 2 groups meeting each week: 
Every TUESDAY 11-12 – Italian Survival Conversation for MOMS with BABIES (0-3yrs)
Every THURSDAY 11-12 – Italian Survival Conversation for ADULTS (WITHOUT Babies) 
Make sure that you get the right day!  Start to speak. No stress. No charge.  Don’t worry about making mistakes!  Practical everyday Italian. 

MOM and BABY (0-3 years) PLAYGROUP in ENGLISH – Open to the Public
Every THURSDAY from 10:30-12. Bring your baby.  Hang out with other moms. Speak English.  Get out of the house!

WINE, CHEESE and BOOKS – May 21st at 8 pm
The book of the month is Leaving Before the Rains Come by Alexandra Fuller.  Want to participate? Send an e-mail aia.fvg@gmail.com. The group changes venue each month.

AC TC – American Corner Teen Club meets every Friday afternoon from 5- 7 pmFree and Open to all Middle and High School Students

FRIDAY FAMILY FILM NIGHT – Open to the Public
May 22 - 5 pm – Ratatouille  (Disney, 108 min.). An entrepreneurial rat dreams of becoming a famous French chef.

SAVE THE DATE: June 6, 6 pm - PRE-SCHOOL and ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – ICE CREAM SOCIAL GRADUATION– A celebration for all of our younger students and their families.

AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE – Programs, consultation of the library, public internet access computers, and Wi-Fi are always free and open to the public.  It’s a great place to study, meet friends, bring your kids.  The US Department of State has granted us a Gold Standard rating in terms of programs, facilities, services! In addition to our regular library, we also feature and Education Advising Section, Children’s Corner Library and Women’s Space. 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Remember that we are a volunteer organization.  We are looking for people to work in the afternoons at the Front Desk, manage library checkouts, mentors for teens and a variety of other roles.  Contact us!  We’ll keep you busy!
