MARCH 

They say that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.  Let’s hope that winter weather will by-pass Trieste completely this year!  It’s Women’s History Month.  Girl’s Rule!

 

CLOSED FOR CARNEVALE

March 3-4-5, our administrative office will be closed and there will be no Library Services.  We follow the scholastic calendar of FVG.

Scuola Materna and Elementary classes WILL NOT be held on March 3,4,5. 

Middle School, High School and Adult Classes WILL be held as scheduled. 

 

SPRING COURSES – Starting the week of March 31st.  Our courses continue all year long.  

You can join our classes at any time, if we have space.  Participation in the previous session is not required.  Remember, when you pay with an IBAN, you have a 5% discount.  In the causale, specify the name of the student, name of class, day and time of the class.  Bring a copy of the IBAN in order to get your receipt.  Click here for the Details for the Spring Classes for Children and Teens and Classes for Adults.

 


We will still have openings for our Italian Class – Mondays from 6-8 pm.  Basic survival Italian.  Feel free to join in! Ti aspettiamo! A presto! (We’re waiting for you! See you soon!)

 

RECEIPTS

Many students who paid with IBAN have not picked up their receipts.  Please come to our office on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons from 4-7pm to pick up your receipts.  Questions? Contact aiafrontdesk@gmail.com

 

AMERICAN FILM SERIES 2013/14

Our 33rd Annual English Language American Film Series will be shown at the Cinema dei Fabbri, Via dei Fabbri 2/A in Trieste.  Showings will be on Thursdays at 2, 4, 6:30 and 9 pm.    Here is the complete list of films for the 2013/14 season.  You can pick up your definitive Membership Cards in our Office.  Memberships are no longer sold at the Cinema.

Schedule change!  No Made for Each Other in March.  We’ll be back in April with the Bea Arthur Theme and in May with the Girl’s Best Friend theme. 

 

TUESDAY BOOK CLUB in our library 10 – 12 – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This month we will meet on March 11th and March 25th.  The author of the month is Tim Parks, an Englishman living in Italy for 30 years, whose wry sense of humor about life in Italy have been widely enjoyed.  Contact us aia.fvg@gmail.com and we’ll get you a copy of the short stories that we’ll read.

WOMEN’S CORNER LIBRARY BOOK DRIVE

MARCH is WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH.  We are proud to announce the launch of our very own Women's Corner Library. You can become a Women's Library Founder by donating a book that you believe should be a part of this special collection. The book can be new or gently used.  Give us your ideas for important books, DVDs and Women's Corner events.  Help us create a (literal and figurative) space for learning, sharing, mentoring, talking, writing, reading, and creating.  Monetary donations also welcome.

Mar. 14th –The Triangle Fire – The true story of the New York fire that inspired International Women’s Day

March 21st – St. Patrick’s Day in America – How St. Patrick’s Day became such an American Festival.

March 28 st – Annie Oakley – The legendary Western sharpshooter and her contradictory life as a Quaker and anti-suffragette. 

 

TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday)– Friday, March 21st, 7 – 9  pm

This month we’re going for American Comfort Food served at AIA FVG and prepared by the Trattoria Via Timeus 9:  Fried Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, Caesar Salad.   For this member’s only (and their families) event, we ask you to reserve and prepay your €7 contribution per person in our office by March 20th.   TGIF is open to all ages so feel free to bring your children (12 and under no charge).  Remember that this is a BYOB evening.  Bring a bottle of wine, beer or whatever you wish to drink.  Cheers!

 

SATURDAY STORYTIME  - Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC with a Reservation

We’ll take a couple weeks of break for Carnival and be back in great style on March 15th and conclude this winter program on March 29th.  Lots of fun and no stress.  Please make a reservation at aia.fvg@gmail.com for your children so we know how many little ones to expect!  Remember, if the city closes schools because of bad weather, we will NOT hold Storytime that day.

At Compagnia delle Creme – Via Firenze 17, Staranzano (GO).  Some English conversation for our Monfalcone followers.  

 

MEMBERSHIP!

Membership is valid until October 2014! In addition to our American Cinema Series, we have a fantastic library with over 5000 books, up-to-date magazines and 1300 DVD’s, as well as the Children’s Corner Library and DVD collection.  Everything is available for check-out.  If you or your children take a course with us, you must become a member.   Your membership is also valid for Members-Only activities.   €25 for students, teachers and over age 65 and €35 for regular membership.  There is a form to be filled out.  Click here to download the membership form or pick it up directly in the office.  More questions? VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Remember that we are a volunteer organization.  We are looking for people to work in the afternoons at the Front Desk, manage library checkouts and for a variety of roles.  Contact us!  We’ll keep you busy!
