Trieste, 15 maggio 2020

Cari Studenti, Soci e Famiglie AIA FVG,

Trieste, May 15, 2020

Dear AIA FVG Students, Members and Families,

Thank you for your continued support of AIA FVG and our courses. As you know, we have worked very hard to offer new opportunities to our members.  When faced with the uncertainty of the Covid-19 crisis, we took immediate measures to adapt our courses to the new situation. It has been an experience of constant learning and discovery, even for us!

We began by creating stand alone, self-paced lessons we could send out once per week. We did our best to craft high-quality, thoughtful lessons that people could do at home with their children or that adults could complete at their own speed, knowing that we were there to support them all the way. We wanted to finish the Winter Session, that was interrupted by the pandemic, in the most positive way we could-- because it was the right thing to do for our students, and, because it gave us great joy to be able to do so. The feedback was positive and encouraging, which led us to add two additional rounds of lessons from a distance at reduced rates to allow those who were interested to continue with us. At the same time, it gave us a unique opportunity to take new risks and experiment with content and techniques.

It was natural for us to want to discuss what we were learning in online sessions. This direct contact has been a lifeline for us, something we can count on at a time when almost nothing is certain. We have grown exponentially as teachers, students, and people over the last three months through these online sessions.

It has always been our mission to serve our community and have fun while doing it. The popularity of our new classes highlights the fact that our students have a great sense of humor, love learning, and want to have fun, too! As teachers, we couldn't ask for more!

We are humbled by the positive feedback and are excited about the future. Spending more time at home has given us a lot of time to think and plan what we want to do in the coming months: more rounds of lessons, a writing workshop for adults, a revamped early childhood program with an online component are just some of the things we are currently testing and looking forward to offering on a larger scale!

Registration is now open for Round 2 of Lessons from a Distance.  5 lessons, 5 weeks starting on May 25th.  Here is the LINK with information and for registration.  New students are welcome!

Regarding other activities for members, the American Film Series is on hold until there is news about opening theaters and cinemas.  Our space is closed until we can legally reopen and guaranteeing the health and safety of all.  Library checkouts are suspended until further notice and those who have books or dvds at home, receive automatic loan extensions.  Until we can meet again, we continue to offer a vast selection of Virtual activities through our Facebook pages.

Let's just say things are starting to get really exciting around here!

Thank you again for taking part in this Hero's Journey with us.

Sincerely,
AIA FVG Staff & AIA F.A.D. Teaching Team

Dear Members,

After over 2 months indoors, we hope that you will gradually get your land legs back and enjoy the new found freedom of Phase 2 “Sblockdown”.  We’re all looking forward to a period of CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM.

#DAYbyDAY – It seems that there is light at the end of the tunnel.  We hope to see you all in person soon, but there has been no official notice about the reopening of Cultural Associations.  We will REMAIN CLOSED until there is a decree and then in any case we will reopen only when we can GUARANTEE the HEALTH and SAFETY of all visitors.

HOME ALONE? We repeat our invitation for anyone home alone to contact us via email at aia.fvg@gmail.com if you need assistance, or just would like to talk.  We’ll call you back.

LIBRARY BOOKS and DVDs - Don’t worry about overdue items.  There will be plenty of time to return them when we can get out again!  Sorry, no new checkouts until further notice.

RECEIPTS are all printed.  When we reopen in the future, they’ll be available for pick up. We are NOT in the office during this period.

THIS SUMMER?  Good Question.  Wouldn’t it be nice? We would all love to go back to “normal”, but it seems that in the immediate future that is not an option.  A coffee together would be a dream.   Summer Classes and Events would be fun.  A night at the cinema would be fantastic. Independence Day would be a great party.  Wait and see.
