Teaching the 21st Century Student

This seminar will explore the unique challenges of teaching today’s students, including promoting life skills and integration of the 5 C’s into the curriculum -Creativity, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Cooperation.

The conference theme is:            TEACHING the 21st Century Student

The sub-themes are:
·         21st Century Student ELT Education: Strategies and Methods
·         Life Skills in the ELT classroom
·         Integration of the 5C's in the ELT curriculum (Creativity, Cooperation, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication

Submissions should clearly indicate which sub-theme will be addressed. Also, please indicate clearly which format the presentation will take:

·         A paper (20 mins+10 minutes Q&A)
·         A workshop (45 minutes)

The deadline for submission is: February 23, 2018

 6/02 - 11 am - SELMA - Film 2014 - 2 hrs. 8 min. 
A chronicle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965.

20/02 11 am - RACE - Film 2016 - 2 hrs. 15 min.
Jesse Owens' quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler's vision of Aryan supremacy.

26/02 - 10 am - Short Story Club - Discussion of Langston Hughes' I, Too (Am America) and Martin Luther King Jr.'s I have a Dream Speech from the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

27/02 - 11 am - GUESS WHO'S COMING to DINNER - Film 1967 - 1 hr. 40 min.
A couple's attitudes are challenged when their daughter introduces them to her African American fiancé.

27/02 - 7 pm - GET OUT - Film 2016 - 1 hr. 44 min.
It's time for a young African-American to meet with his white girlfriend's parents for a weekend in their secluded estate in the woods, but before long, the friendly and polite ambience will give way to a nightmare.

Manchester by the Sea

Manchester by the Sea was shown on THURSDAY, February 8th.  
There was an error on the printed program.  The date on the back of the Membership card is correct.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.  The film will be available in DVD from March 2nd.

Returning for her second GLOW workshop is technology guru, Barbara Razzini, who will be running our website and logo design workshop on February 9th from 18:00-20:00 at the American Corner/Associazione Italo-Americana del FVG.

She will be presenting in English but here is a short profile in Italian for you to get an idea about who she is and what she does. Check out the links below to see more about her incredible projects. What a woman!

Free and Open to the Public. 


10 am - Mom & Baby Play Group -Come and hang out.  Bring the Kids.  Don't get BLUE.  Get OUT of the house.


Wednesday, Feb. 7


6 pm - Knit Wits - Knitting Group.  Come to knit in company, learn or teach!
