Associazione Italo Americana FVG SPRING session classes began last week.  There are still 9 more weeks.  Did you forget to register? No problem.  Come on down and we'll get you signed up.  

Looking ahead to summer?  Yes, we can.  Here is the Summer STEAM Program for kids from age 3-19.  For Pre K, Elementary, Middle School, High School Students.  Learn English and much more by doing, making, creating.  Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics.

During Office Hours, you can renew your Membership or Course with Cash, Pick up your receipts for IBAN Payments, Check Out Books, DVD’s Magazines. 

CLOSED for LIBERATION DAY – April 25th.  NO Classes or Activities on this date. 

2015/16 - AIA FVG MEMBERSHIP
You can become a member at any time of year!  Here is the Membership Form.  You can pay cash or pay via IBAN.  Remember to fill in and scan your Membership Form along with the copy of your IBAN Payment.  Prices remain unchanged:  €35 for the Regular Adult Membership and €25 for Reduced Membership - Students age 16 and over, Teachers and over age 65.  To attend courses, the student (or a parent) must be a member).  Membership is valid for checking out books, magazines, DVD’s and for 9 films in the 2015/16 American Cinema Series in the Original Version at Cinema dei Fabbri and plus reduced ticket prices on other films at Fabbri.  Membership is valid until August 31, 2016.

Looking Ahead to SUMMER for your Children – Pre-K through High School? 
Here is our SUMMER STEAM English Program for Kids

WEEKEND WARRIOR FULL IMMERSION ENGLISH for ADULTS.   – The monthly dates have been set for the year - 1 weekend each month.  The next session is April 16-17, 2-7 pm on Saturday and Sunday.  10 hours of intensive English over the weekend. Objective: English Fluency!  Too busy during the week?  This is for you.  Start communicating in English, fast!

TOEFL and SAT EXAM PREPARATION – Contact us if you will be taking the exams to go to the university in the US.  We have set up a class to help you.

2015/16 AMERICAN FILM SERIES
THE AMERICAN FILM SERIES continues at Cinema dei Fabbri.  You can become a member even after the series starts.  ONLY Members can attend the American Film Series.  No single tickets can be sold.

Apr 21st at 2, 4, 6:30, 9 pm – BEST OF ENEMIES. Robert Gordon, Morgan Neville. Documentary, 87 min. A documentary on the series of televised debates in 1968 between liberal Gore Vidal and conservative William F. Buckley.

EARTH DAY
April 22, 2016 – 5 pm – EARTH – Disney Nature (2007, 90 min.) An epic story of adventure, starring some of the most magnificent and courageous creatures alive. Three animal families on a journey across our planet – polar bears, elephants and humpback whales.

AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE – Programs, consultation of the library, public internet access computers, and Wi-Fi are always free and open to the public.  A great place to study, meet friends, bring your kids.  The US Department of State has granted us a Gold Standard rating in terms of programs, facilities, services! In addition to our regular library, we also feature an Education Advising Section, Children’s Corner Library and Women’s Space.  Consult our on line catalog of Books and DVD’s

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Remember that we are a volunteer organization.  We are looking for people to work in the afternoons at the Front Desk, manage library checkouts, help at the cinema, manage our morning programs, help with seasonal events, mentor teens and a variety of other roles.  Contact us!  We’ll keep you busy!

Places without People - April 1-30, 2016


PLACES without PEOPLE is open during our Office Hours.  Free and Open to the Public
Monday to Friday afternoons: 4-7 pm and 
Tuesday and Thursday mornings: 9-12

The photographic exhibit, Places Without People, was idea that came about thanks to a pen pal project between two High School English Classes at the Associazione Italo Americana FVG with a class of High School Photography students at the Abington Friends School located outside of Philadelphia.   After Skyping with the American students several times, we decided to collaborate on a creative project that would deepen the students' new found connection and communication skills. Many of the Italian students study architecture and wanted to explore the spirit of buildings in their city without human presence. The students were divided into project groups and were asked to interpret the theme in their own special way and take photos that represented their group's idea.

The American students edited and printed the photos. The same exhibit will be hanging in Philadelphia.

Places without People è una mostra collettiva, frutto di una collaborazione tra liceali che studiano inglese presso l’Associazione Italo Americana FVG a Trieste e liceali americani, che seguono un corso di fotografia all’Abington Friends School, che si trova fuori Philadelphia.  I ragazzi hanno iniziato a corrispondere come Pen Pals, poi si sono sentiti e visti sul Skype. Infine hanno deciso di collaborare in un progetto creativo per poter approfondire la loro nuova amicizia e migliorare la loro capacità di comunicare.     

Molti degli studenti triestini sono amanti dell’architettura e volevano esplorare lo spirito di diverse strutture nella loro città senza la presenza umana. 

Gli studenti sono stati divisi in gruppi di lavoro con il compito di interpretare il tema a modo loro tramite fotografie che rappresentavano il concetto condiviso con il gruppo.

Gli studenti americani hanno curato la stampa e il montaggio delle foto.  La stessa mostra verrà esposta anche a Philadelphia.
