What's Up at Association Italo Americana FVG/ American Corner Trieste this week?

We're starting our regular activities this week!  We're back with our normal hours.  
Mornings:  Tuesday and Thursday 9-12
Afternoons:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 4-7 pm

Here are our FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC ACTIVIES for the week, no reservation needed:

Tuesday
9:30 am - Mom & Baby (0-3 yrs) Survival Italian Conversation
10 am - Tuesday Coffee Break in English

Thursday
9:30 am - Mom & Baby (0-3 yrs) Play Date in English
10 am - Adult Survival Italian Conversation
10 am - Maker and Creator Space - Do you sew or knit?  Want to learn want to help?  Want to sew or knit with company? Need to mend something?  Come on down!  We have 3 Singer Sewing Machines and lots of ideas. 
8 pm - Wine Cheese & Books - First meeting of the season - This group of Native Speakers and Near Native Speakers reads and discusses full length books.  Meeting once a month.  The venue changes each time.  Want to join them?  Send us an email at aia.fvg@gmail.com

Friday
5 pm - AC TC - American Corner Teen Club - Open to All Middle and High School Students.  Making, Creating, Playing, Hanging out in English.  Adult mentor supervision.  Lots of fun.  A group of last year's students will be going to the Model UN to be held in Rome in October, with scholarships from the U.S. Embassy Rome!  

Saturday
Associazione Italo Americana FVG COURSES BEGIN!  Saturday morning - Family English (Pre-K + parent) , Elementary English.  The other classes start on Monday, September 22nd.

Memberships must be renewed each year.  In order to take a course you must be a registered member.  For Children under age 16, 1 parent must become a member.  
With your membership you can attend the American Film Series at Cinema dei Fabbri starting Nov. 5th, Check out Books, Magazines and DVD's from the American Corner Library and Children's Corner Library, attend Members Only Events (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Cookie Fest, Independence Day, etc) register for our courses and much more.  

The cost of the membership is:
- €25 "Ridotto" for Students age 16 and over, Adults age 65 and over, Teachers / Professors
- €35 "Intero" for Adults.

We offer a full schedule of activities at the American Corner that are Free and Open to the Public.  Family Film Series, Almost Oscar Film Series, Sci-Fi Film Series, Short Story Club, Wine Cheese & Books, Coffee Break, Sharing and Relaxing, Mom & Baby Play Date, Survival Italian Conversation for Moms & Babies and just for Adults, Maker Creator Space, Teen Club, Conferences, Events.

SEPTEMBER  - We’re Awesome, How are You?
Back from the summer vacation and ready to go!  This year is full of surprises and programs new and old!  Join us for an Open Day, a Course, an American Film, Teen Club, Mom & Baby Play Day, Coffee Break, Family Film Night, Survival Italian and much more.  We have the original Maker Lab: a fully equipped kitchen and a new Creator Space featuring Sewing Machines.  Of course you can always visit our American Corner Library, Children’s Corner, Women’s Space, Educational Advising Section.

Summer Hours from August 31st until September 4th, -   Mornings:  Tuesday and Thursday 9 – 12,   Afternoons:  Wednesday 5-7.   
Regular Hours Starting September 7th:
Mornings:  Tuesday and Thursday 9 – 12,   Afternoons:  Monday to Friday 4-7. 

Renew your Membership Early!  It’s that time of year again!  You can purchase your Memberships for 2015/16 during our Office Hours.  It’s easier this year because of our new super software that will pick up you previous data.  The prices remain unchanged:  €35 for the Regular Adult Membership and €25 for Reduced Membership - Students age 16 and over, Teachers and over age 65.  To attend courses, the student (or their parent must be a member).  Membership is valid for checking out books, magazines, DVD’s and for the 2014/15 American Cinema Program in the Original Version at Cinema dei Fabbri beginning on November 12th.  Membership is valid one school year and must be renewed annually.  The film schedule will be published in mid-September.

AIA FVG ENGLISH COURSES BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS
Our Summer Courses for Kids and Adults continue. 
SUMMER STEAM WEEK  starting on August 31st for Elementary, Middle and High School Students.
ADULT INTENSIVE WEEK – September 7-11 – 2 hours a day for 5 days.    
WEEKEND WARRIOR FULL IMMERSION ENGLISH for ADULTS.   – September 12-13.  10 hours of intensive English over the weekend. Objective: English Fluency!  Too busy during the week?  This is for you.  Start communicating in English, fast!

7/9 – ADULT Classes 2015/16 – Once a Week, Intensive, Weekend Warrior and Specialized Courses, Individual Lessons.

SAT EXAM PREPARATION – Contact us if you will be taking the SAT to go to the university in the US.  We are setting up a class.  Need to prepare for the TOEFL?  We can help.

ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS and FAMILIES – Free and Open to the Public

I LOVE READING – Summer Reading Contest –AWARDS Ceremony September 8th, 6 pm. 
You and your children can still participate in our Summer Reading Competition and win a Kindle, an Illustrated Dictionary, Stickers.  If you participated, come for our Awards Ceremony during the Open House for Kids!

FAMILY FILM NIGHT - FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC at American Corner Trieste
Every month we will have a cartoon family film in English.  Bring the kids, the grandchildren.  Take a break! Bring some friends. Cartoon Feature Films in English for all ages. Here is the list for 2015/16.  This month: 
Sept. 25th – FINDING NEMO  (2003, 100 min) – Nemo, Marlin and Dory on the Great Barrier Reef.    

STORYTIME IS BACK – Starting in October we will have a Free Storytime once a Month on Friday afternoons at 5:30 p.m. Keep checking our newsletters, blog and Facebook pages for updates.

AMERICAN CORNER TEEN CLUB - AC TC -  Every Friday from 5-7 pm - Starting on Friday Sept. 25thMake, Create, Hangout in English.  Open to all Middle and High School Students.  Every week a different activity.  Cooking, Playing, Coding, Hanging out in English.  9 of our Teen Club  participants from last year will be attending the Model UN in Rome in October. 


MOM & BABY SURVIVAL ITALIANStarting Sept. 15th - Every Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 am.  Meet some other moms, learn some Survival Italian in an informal setting.  Bring the Baby!
MOM & BABY PLAYDATE in English – Starting Set. 17th - Every Thursday from 9:30 – 11:30 am – Meet some fellow Moms.  Hangout in our baby friendly space and let the kids play together.

ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS

Sept. 15th, 10- 12 - COFFEE BREAK – Take a pause, enjoy some great English conversation and a cup of coffee.
Sept. 22nd – 10- 11:30 am - SHARING and RELAXING in ENGLISH – Talk, Reflect, Breathe, Relax. 
Sept 28th, 10-11 am - SHORT STORY CLUB – 10-1 – The story of the month is The First Day of School by Jeffery Deaver.   

THURSAYS at AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE
SURVIVAL ITALIAN for ADULTS - Starting Sept. 17th - Every Thursday from 10-11 am - Practice your Italian in an informal setting.  

WINE, CHEESE and BOOKS – Sept. 17th,  8 pm.  Venue to be decided.  This month we are having a get together to regroup and not discussing a book.  Want to participate? Send an e-mail aia.fvg@gmail.com.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT for ENGLISH TEACHERS – The free 5 week online course for English teachers begins on September 28th.  Register on-line and participate to improve your teaching skills. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

ALMOST OSCAR Film Series – October Special film series with award winning/ academy award nominated films.   All Day on Mondays in October before the American Film Series at Cinema dei Fabbri begins in November.  At American Corner Trieste.  Free and Open to All.
KNITTING and SEWING CLUB - We now have a Maker / Creator Space with Singer Sewing Machines and Knitting Needles. Are you interested in sewing or knitting with others?  Want to learn?  Contact us!
CHESS CLUB – We have tournament style chess boards and are starting a chess club.  Do you play?  Want to learn or teach others to play?
VOLUNTEER ALUMNI EVENING – Past and present volunteers, meet and share stories about their AIA FVG volunteer days.  More news coming soon. 
MOTHER and DAUGHTER  BRUNCH for the Day of the Girl Child – in October.

AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE – Programs, consultation of the library, public internet access computers, and Wi-Fi are always free and open to the public.  A great place to study, meet friends, bring your kids.  The US Department of State has granted us a Gold Standard rating in terms of programs, facilities, services! In addition to our regular library, we also feature and Education Advising Section, Children’s Corner Library and Women’s Space. 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Remember that we are a volunteer organization.  We are looking for people to work in the afternoons at the Front Desk, manage library checkouts, help at the cinema, mentor teens and a variety of other roles.  Contact us!  We’ll keep you busy!
