October is American Government Month at Friday American Experience

Election day in the US is November 5th.  No Presidential campaign this year, but local political campaigns are in full swing.  2 documentaries and a speaker.

Oct. 4th—Understanding Government—The Legislative Branch (50 Min).  The Senate and the House of Representatives:  how laws are made, the influence of lobbyists and special interests, checks and balances between the 2 houses and the branches of Government.

 Oct. 11th—Understanding Government—The Judicial Branch (50 min.).  Federal Courts and the Supreme Court oversee the laws of the land in keeping with the US Constitution.

Oct. 18th—JFK vs Obama:  Presidential Persuasion at its Best -Sheila Khawaja, guest lecturer—Master in Translation and Interpretation,  will compare the speaking styles of these two charismatic presidents.

 

Oct. 25th - No Documentary due to Halloween Party for children.

This week the documentary SPELLBOUND

Sept. 27th, 6 pm
8 Young Americans share one goal: to win the National Spelling Bee (Documentary, 107 min.)
The kids are in 8th grade (seconda media) and the suspense and the stakes are high: $30,000 plus national TV coverage.
Spelling Bees (gare dello spelling ad alta voce) are regularly held in schools around the country and the local winners head to this national competition.  (Leave the spelling to the kids.  No dictionary required!) OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

We promise that we WILL NOT become Italian Grammar Police and WILL focus on CONVERSATION!!!  You need to know how to carry on a conversation, go to the post office, order an Aperol Spritz, buy a kilogram of apples, answer the phone.  If you need something more grammar oriented we can do that too.   Our class size is between 4 and 10 students.  MOLTO BENE!   A presto! Invasion of the Body Snatchers Tuesday, Sept. 24th at 8 pm

SCI-FI CONTACTS: From Text to Screen - a Sci-Fi Cinema / TV series Festival featuring Classic films (in English) and commentary and introduction by post-doc *Giulia Iannuzzi, linking the literary work to the film. FUN!!!
