US Student Safety and Security Abroad Presentation


PRESENTATION U.S. STUDENT SAFETY and SECURITY ABROAD October 3, 2016, 3 pm Free and Open to the Public


The Vice Consul from the U.S. Consulate General Milan will present safety tips and recommendations for U.S. Students studying abroad

  • Safety and Vigilance while Abroad
  • Emergencies while Abroad, 
  • Voting from Abroad, 
  • Services the Consulate can Offer Students. 

A great occasion for young Americans abroad (and eventual educational advisors and host families) to have a direct contact with the U.S. Consulate.  

Students who are have completed Absentee Ballots for the November elections can bring them in by October 3rd at 3pm.   The Consulate will send them to the US, postage free.

Not registered to vote absentee?  Go online ASAP www.fvap.gov to request your absentee ballot. For many states it is possible to obtain an email version, but usually you must print them and return a hard copy by mail.  

Need to renew your passport or a Notary? If need these or other Consular Services, go to this LINK for details.  The Vice Consul is accepting appointments for passport renewals and other services for US Citizens.  Sorry, no visa appointments for non-US Citizens.

In order to get detailed information on: forms, procedures, and applicable fees, please visit the US Embassy website at 
http://italy.usembassy.gov/acs.html. Passport application forms should be filled out on line and printed out in advance of the appointment. 

Consular service fees for passport or notarial services will have to be paid for by an assegno circolare (cashier’s check), issued by an Italian bank in the exact € amount of the fee, and made out to the U.S. Consulate General Milan. Cash or credit cards CANNOT be accepted for payment.

NEWS for U.S. CITIZENS

AMERICANS. YOUR VOTE COUNTS.  If you are an American citizen, and have not yet registered to vote, please do so immediately.  Go to www.FVAP.gov and fill out the Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request Form. Send your form back according to the instructions for your state.  When you receive your ballot, vote and send it back immediately by mail with Italian Postage applied.  

Monday, OCTOBER 3, 2016 the Vice Consul for U.S. Citizen Services was in Trieste to offer: services and accept absentee ballots.  In addition she did a presentation about  U.S. STUDENT SAFETY and SECURITY ABROAD

Thursday, OCTOBER 20, 2016 - an Official from the US Federal Social Security Administration in Rome will be at American Corner Trieste to accept Social Security applications and answer Social Security questions.
  • 9-12 – INDIVIDUAL APPOINTMENTS by email request tofvg@gmail.com
  • 2 pm – PRESENTATION – Social Security Overview and Applying for Social Security Benefits Online. Free and Open to the Public.


VOLUNTEERS
We are a Volunteer Run Non-Profit Association.
Volunteers run our Library, American Corner Programs and Activities.  We are looking for Volunteers to Mentor and Manage the Teen Club, Assist with the Nati per Leggere program, Work at the Cinema, Help with our Morning Activities.  Send us an email.  We’ll find a role for you.  University of Trieste students in Humanities or P.R. can earn Internship Credit Hours with us (CFU).   We accept students with a minimum of 75 hours (3 CFU).  You'll have a great experience and improve your English, while you also learn valuable people skills. Contact us!  aia.fvg@gmail.com 

AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE – Programs, consultation of the library, public internet access computers, and Wi-Fi are always free and open to the public.  A great place to study, meet friends, bring your kids.  The US Department of State has granted us a Gold Standard rating in terms of programs, facilities, services! 10 am - Maker Space and Survival Italian for Adults - No 3D printers, but 3 Singer Sewing Machines and a lot of creativity.  We'll be doing some simple informal Italian conversation while we're making things.  Bring in those new jeans that need to be hemmed.  
10 am - Mom & Baby Play Date in English - Come on down.  we'll be together in the Children's Corner.  English is the language of the day.  Meet some Moms, your babies can play or enjoy a nap.  Family Friendly - Changing table, quiet zone.

5 pm - AC TC - American Corner Teen Club 
Making, Creating, Hanging Out in English.  Every Friday afternoon.  Middle School and High School students.  Activities overseen and mentored by cool English speaking University Students.  (Not your Mom's Teen Club).

NEWS for U.S. CITIZENS

AMERICANS CAN VOTE. WHEREVER THEY ARE.  If you are an American citizen, register to vote ASAP.  Go to www.FVAP.gov and fill out the Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request Form.  On October 3rd, the US Vice Consul will collect completed Absentee Ballots and send them to the US via Diplomatic Pouch at no charge.

US Ambassador to Italy John Phillips and Ambassador Philip Reeker US Consulate General Milan visited us and met with our Refugee Students and Teachers this summer.  Thanks to a contribution from the US Diplomatic Mission to Italy, the American Corner teaches special English Courses for 60 Refugees.

Mr. Eskinder Negash will be on ShareAmerica streaming live, speaking to audiences around the world about the Global Refugee Crisis.  He will speak to a live audience in Athens, Greece, and answer questions from posts around the world. President Obama appointed Mr. Negash as the Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), where he served from 2009 – 2015. #AIDREFUGEES
