APRIL 2020 NEWSLETTER

April Newsletter on the blog / April Calendar on the blog

Dear Members,
We hope that his newsletter finds you well.  It has been a different Spring than any of us had ever imagined or experienced.  In this time of uncertainty, we urge you to STAY HOME and STAY WELL. We’ll all make sacrifices and get through this Coronavirus Emergency together.

For those of you who are home alone, please contact us via email at aia.fvg@gmail.com if you need assistance, or just would like to talk.  We’ll call you back.  If you are home together with your spouse and children, good luck.  Enjoy your quality family time.

We miss you all and we can’t wait to see everybody again soon! Enjoy the Spring from your window.  Happy Easter!

The Associazione Italo Americana FVG / American Corner Trieste has been working from home in order to stay in touch virtually.  In record time, the AIAFVG teaching team prepared LESSONS from a DISTANCE that are sent to our families / students each week in order to recuperate the lessons missed in the Winter Session.  We hope that you are enjoying them.  From PreK/Family to Elementary 345 and Native Speakers, the lessons are to be done by the children with their parents.  For other classes we send a weekly lesson plan including links and schedule an online meeting with the teacher. If you haven’t received your Lessons, check your Inbox, Promotions and Spam.  If you still can’t find the lessons, contact us.

The positive feedback from our students and families about our Lessons from a Distance has been tremendous.  We’re so proud of all of you!  If you wish to send your children’s artwork to us, with your permission we will gladly share it on Facebook.

We hope that our Lessons from a Distance will help you improve your English, have some fun and help make the time at home pass a bit faster.

We are preparing a session of 5 weekly LESSONS from a DISTANCE -Round 1, starting the week of April 20th.  Our usual immersion approach with a focus on fluency.  New students are welcome.  Are you be interested?  Please let us know on this Google Form.

All of us would love to watch our films on the big screen.  Tentative dates had been scheduled to recuperate films that were cancelled due to the closure of cinemas.  At this point, no one knows when the theaters will re-open.  The program is in stand-by.  We hope to screen the remaining films later this year.

The American Corner has gone virtual, posts daily in Facebook and features interesting free links for you to improve your English and learn about American culture from home.  Take virtual tours of museums and national parks, check out eBooks from the finest libraries in the world, take a University Online Course for free, go to the Opera, enjoy concerts, audio books, children’s books and films at no charge.

Don’t worry about overdue library books and DVDs.  There will be plenty of time to return them when we can get out again!

American Corner Trieste hosts weekly Webchats on Facebook Live on Fridays at 11 am.  This week we’ll discuss April Fools’ Day.  Informal Chats in English about more or less! We’d love for you to join us!

Instead of a single theme, for April, we propose a theme each week:  April Fools’ Day, Jazz, Baseball, Earth Week, Intellectual Property Week.  The US Department of State is working to give American Corners rights to transmit American documentaries from the Kanopy collection on a closed Facebook page.  We’ll keep you posted.  Check our blog and American Corner Facebook Page regularly for updates.

TAKE CARE.  STAY HOME.  STAY WELL!
