A cycle of science fiction movies and TV series on energy sources and their relationship with the present and future of our society and the environment: “thought experiments”, critical reflection through fiction, and science fiction fun for everyone!    
Exceptional guest speakers will be with us to discuss the theme of the evening.Hosted by Giulia Iannuzzi, PhD.

Alternate Natural Resources

The series is initially set in A.D. 2149, when overpopulation and declining air quality threatens all life on Earth. When scientists discover a temporal rift permitting human
transmission, they initiate a series of "pilgrimages" to a parallel time stream resembling Earth's Cretaceous Period. The colony there, named Terra Nova, is ruled by Commander Nathaniel Taylor (Stephen Lang). A new chance for humanity, but the untouched nature
in Terra Nova is not exactly an ecotopia...

In 2035, Lunar Industries have made a fortune after an oil crisis by building Sarang, an automated lunar facility to mine the alternative fuel helium-3. Helium-3 is used primarily to power fusion reactors and other things that run on fusion energy. Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), the astronaut who maintains operations at Sarang, nears the end of a three-year work contract as the facility's sole resident...

Facing the Ecocatastrophe

On an expedition in Antarctica, paleoclimatologist Jack Hall and his colleagues Frank and Jason are drilling for ice-core samples on the Larsen Ice Shelf for the NOAA when the shelf breaks off.
Later, Jack presents his findings on global warming at a United Nations conference, but fails to convince diplomats or Vice President of the United States... Catastrophic
climatic effects result in a series of extreme weather events that usher in global cooling and leads to a new ice age. The film depicts events predicted by scientists, but happening much more rapidly and severely than is considered scientifically plausible.

Following a nuclear holocaust, the world has become a desert wasteland and civilization has collapsed. Meanwhile, Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron), one of Joe's lieutenants, is sent in her armored truck to collect gasoline. When she drives off-route, Joe realizes that something very precious of his is
missing and leads his entire army in pursuit of Furiosa...
