APRIL 2013 NEWS

APRIL
Oh, What a Month!  Packing, our move, our new place, unpacking, reassembling.  You know how much stuff you acquire in 44 years?  Anyway, we love our new location.  Come  over and see, volunteer to help unpack!  

COURSES
Courses will go on as scheduled.  In fact we have already had a couple of lessons in our new space.  You can still sign up.  For info call:  349 8666667. 

Intensive Week – April 8-12 – Jump start your English.  10 hours of English in 5 days!  Come out speaking almost like a native…
Adult Beginner, Adult Advanced, Adult Intermediate- Monday to Friday 6-8 p.m. Cost €130.  Contact us for details.

Spring Courses – Starting April 15 – Our regular courses will continue  from April 15th  with the same days and times.  Talk to your teacher if you are already in a course.  Classes for students will end with the Italian school year.   

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE 2012/13 – Exchange your temporary membership card for the permanent one

MEMBERSHIP GOAL FOR 2012-2013: 600.  Membership update:  510  (90 to go!)

Join or renew now and take advantage of our programs:  American Cinema Series at the Ariston, Made for Each Other at Cappella Underground, Library /Mediateca, Children’s Corner, Invitations to Special Events, Coffee Breaks, Friday American Experience, Saturday Storytime.  Membership is:  €25 for students (age 16 and over), teachers, over 65, €35 for regular membership.  Another great gift idea for family and friends.
MADE FOR EACH OTHER at Cappella Underground – showtime 8 p.m. – MEMBERS ONLY
Classic American TV compared to American film with the same theme, including commentary by Prof. Leonardo Buonomo.   True lessons in American Pop Culture.  Here are our upcoming “matches”.  We have rescheduled The Day the Earth Stood Still, which was cancelled because of the ice storm.  The rest of the calendar is moved back by one week. 
April 8th– The Day the Earth Stood Still (Film 1951)
April 15th – Tin Man (TV Series)
April 22nd – The Wizard of Oz (Film)

AMERICAN FILM SERIES at Cinema Ariston – 2, 4, 6:30 and 9 p.m. – MEMBERS ONLY
To go the movies, you must be a member of AIA –FVG.  Sorry, no single admission tickets can be sold.

THURSDAY COFFEE BREAK in our library 10 – 12 – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
April 18th – Our monthly appointment to have a coffee and some good conversation (in English).  Help us shelve some books!

FRIDAY AMERICAN EXPERIENCE in our Aula Magna at 6 p.m. – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Our April program has been suspended due to the move.  Back in May! 
We still want to keep you on your toes though.  Don’t forget Earth Day on April 22nd and International Book and Copyright  Day on April 23rd. 

TGIF! – in our office from 7 p.m. – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
April 19th - Happy Hour with drinks and snacks in our library.  Meet new people, speak English, enjoy ethnic cuisine.  After our American TGIF served by Marino in Via Timeus 9, we’ll go Italian with Pizza! Don’t miss it this month.  Take Out Restaurant of the Month:  Barattolo, our neighbor in Piazza S. Antonio (€5 contribution, BYOB).  Participants bring drinks to share.  Make a reservation so we know how much food to order at aia.fvg@gmail.com or by phone 040 63 03 01.

SATURDAY STORYTIME in our Kids Zone, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
We concluded Storytime for the winter with a great story, a party and certificates for everybody.  Thanks again to all volunteers, kids, parents.   We’ll be back in the summer with Storytime Light and the I Love Reading Competition.

CLOSED FOR PONTE Our office will closed on April 25th and 26th (Volunteers are people too!)  Everyone will enjoy the break.  No classes, library services or events on those days.
