JANUARY 2013 NEWS

 HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Lots of exciting things this month! We start off with Intensive Week and Winter Course registration, and have our  Storytime and Made for Each other series kick-offs while we continue our Friday documentary series and coffee hour! The Office will officially open again on Monday, January 7. We will be open on that day from 10-12 for Super Intensive Week registration and during our normal hours 4-8pm. Here is what we have cooking for this month!

WINTER SEMESTER COURSES

Make improving your English a New Year’s resolution.  An English course is a great and useful gift for your spouse, children / grandchildren, your mom who loves to travel, and why not… for yourself!  Full immersion English, right here in Trieste.

SUPER INTENSIVE ENGLISH WEEK – January 7^th – 11th

Start the New Year right!  10 hours (2 hours a day) of English in one week! A great way to jump-start your English.

Price: Euro 130+membership to AIA (There is a 5% discount for courses when paid by bank transfer. See below)

Regular semester courses continue! Join the Winter session even if you weren’t in the Fall class.  Our courses are conversation-oriented.  Click here for full details of course offerings and prices.

MEMBERSHIP GOAL FOR 2012-2013: 600. 

Join or renew now and take advantage of our programs:  American Cinema Series at the Ariston, Made for Each Other at Cappella Underground, Library /Mediateca, Children’s Corner, Invitations to Special Events, Coffee Breaks, Friday American Experience, Saturday Storytime.  Membership is:  €25 for students (age 16 and over), teachers, over 65, €35 for regular membership.

This month we kick off of our annual series with Classic American TV and American film with the same theme, hosted by our president, Prof. Leonardo Buonomo.   True lessons in American Pop Culture.

The best of American culture and documentaries.  A month dedicated to American presidents numbers 34 and 35.

Jan. 11^th – Dwight D. Eisenhower– 45 min. From his youth in Kansas to General and finally President.

Jan 18^th – The Kennedys, Part 1, 80 min – The rise of Joseph Kennedy on Wall Street.

Jan 25^th - The Kennedys, Part 2, 80 min – The election and presidency of John F. Kennedy.

Feb 1^st - The Kennedys, Part 3, 80 min –  Bobby and Teddy.

·         Monday, January 21^st – 6 p.m. -  Inauguration of President Obama in Live Streaming from the White House

 

SATURDAY STORYTIME in our Kid Zone, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Year 4 of this weekly program dedicated to children age 0 – 10.  We’ll focus on 2 popular American authors for children, Eric Carle and Laura Numeroff.  Join us for a story reading by a mother tongue volunteer, followed by a related activity.  A fun, no stress way to get your children to start learning English.  Call or e-mail us to reserve for your little one.  A call for volunteer Story Readers (mother tongue English), Craft and Activity Assistants (age 10+)!  Send us an e-mail or contact us in the office.  We are also looking for school supply donations to use for our activities (markers, crayons, colored pencils, construction paper, glue, kiddie scissors, etc.)  Please check your closets!
