Trieste Loves Jazz and Check Six

What a night! What a concert!  The US Air Force Europe Jazz Band "Check Six" treated the city of Trieste to a fabulous concert on July 8, 2012 in the Trieste Loves Jazz concert series.  90 minutes of pure joy.  They were fantastic!Thank you "Check Six" , the US Consulate General Milan and the City of Trieste. If you missed the concert, here are some photos and a video clip of "In the Mood".  Best wishes to Rachel Trimble and the Check Six Drummer who played their final concert with Check Six and are off to new posts in the US Air Force.

July means Fourth of July, Cookouts, Swimming and Reading at the Beach!  Before you leave for Barcola, stop by and pick up a good book or magazine.  We recommend:  How to Cook Everything, Dexter, Ray Bradbury Fahreinheit 451.  Plus we have lots of magazines that slip right into your beach bag! Just remember to return them before we close in August!!

US AIR FORCE EUROPE JAZZ ENSEMBLE “ Check Six” – July 8, 2012, 9 p.m., Piazza Cavana -Trieste
Celebrate Independence Day in Style (a couple days later)!
Thanks to the US Consulate Milan, the US Air Force Europe Jazz Band “Check Six” will perform a free concert for the public. This premier jazz ensemble based in Germany will delight us with the smooth sounds of the 40’s and 50’s and the music that their founder, Major Glenn Miller, was so famous for.   Take a walk down memory with this 13 piece group, with such favorites as “In the Mood”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”, “Route 66”.  In honor of July 4th, we might be able to convince them to play Stars & Stripes Forever!

I  ♥ READING   – Summer Reading Program
The heat is on ... (literally!) and the competition is getting tough!  The  I ♥ READING program has been a great success.  Come and participate, you’re still in time, or just admire our super score cards to see how many books people have been reading.  There will be an awards ceremony in September after school starts to recognize our readers (young and young at heart).
 Our program includes:
- The Score Card at the Association to keep track of how many books you read from June 15th until September 10th (for kids and adults!)
- Fantastic prizes!
- Name the Bookworm Mascot Contest .  So far the suggested names include:  Fred, Bronson, Winston , Ugo, Bookstar, Preppy, Hermey Vermey, Ricky Read, Norm the Worm, Brugworm.  Feel free to submit any other names!
