School starts on Thursday, February 2nd with Tex-Mex. Response has been fantastic and the first course is already full. We have a waiting list and will reschedule another sessions of Tex-Mex in the future after we see how the first course goes.

In order to participate in the courses, you must be a member of AIA-FVG (Not a member yet? No problem. Membership is €35 for regular memberships and €25 for teachers, students + 65). Membership includes the Ariston and Cappella Underground Film Series, Storytime, Use of our Lending Library and much more).

Black History Month



February is Black History Month at the American Corner Trieste. The Friday Documentaries for the month are:

Feb. 2nd - Dreams of Obama - Interviews with those closest to Obama before he took office in 2009

Feb. 10th - Tuskegee Airmen - The first group of black fighter pilots in WWII. The fought both racism and the war.

Feb. 17th - Massachusetts 54th Colored Division - The real story of the heroic African American regiment in the Union army in the Civil War.

Feb. 24th - When I Rise - Barbara Smith Conrad, talented Afro-American mezzo soprano in 1957, becomes the center of a civil rights battle at the University of Texas when she is cast to star in a university production with a white male opera singer.

Our focus on American food culture continues with the last documentary on food. Burt Wolf's PBS Series - Taste of Freedom - Carnival in America and Taste of Trieste.

Explore food traditions in the US. The second episode explores food traditions in Trieste (in English). This special episode was not released in the US. Michael, our volunteer, will lead the discussion afterwards.

Here is a summary of this 2011 film directed by JJ Abrams and produced by Steven Speilberg


In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.


Members only...not a member yet? No problem. You can get your membership card in our office or on Ariston film night. Euro 25 for students, teachers, over 65 and Euro 35 for the rest of us. Your membership card is valide for the Ariston series, Made for Each Other at the Cappella Underground, use of our library and much more!


We will have a Bake Sale in the lobby of the Ariston before the movie. Donate some homemade specialties in single serving portions. The funds support our library and extra activities.

Made for Each Other is back with 2 more Companion TV series / movies. The topic of the month is family.

Family -Monday, January 16th. The seventies series following the Lawrence family and their in-house drama. Winner of 4 Emmy Awards.

Ordinary People - Monday, January 23rd. Starring Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland and Hutton. Directed by Robert Redford. Winner of 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture.

Join Leonardo Buonomo for some Pop Culture 101. Each film is followed by a commentary to put things into perspective.

Get off the couch and get to the Cappella Underground. Films start at 8:30 p.m.

INTENSIVE ENGLISH

Each story is followed by a related activity. Call the office and make a reservation . A great way to get your children interested in English – no stress, just fun. Take a foodie tour of the US without leaving Trieste. Andrea, our very own Renaissance man: ESL teacher and professional chef will teach a hands on cooking course for the preparation of the regional specialties of: El Paso, New Orleans, and New York. For Members Only. The cost is: €30 per lesson (including an apron). Dinner (prepared by you on-site plus an AIA – FVG apron) and recipes included! Come by the office to book and pay. LIBRARY NEWS
Santa brought us a new automated Library Check-Out System. Be patient with us during our learning period. Look for lots of new books and DVD’s. On Saturday Storytimes the library will be open from 10:00 a.m. until noon.

Enjoy the rest of the holidays, but mark your calendars for January 14th! We can start taking reservations on Monday, January 9th. This is a fun, no-stress way to get your children age 0 - 10 speaking English (if they already speak English, it is just plain fun!)


Try it you'll like it. For your first time, you don't have to be a member. If you continue, we ask that one member of the family become a member of AIA FVG (€25 for students, teachers and over 65, €35 for regular memberships). Membership includes the film series, use of our library, invitations to our special events.


The library is open for check-outs on Saturday Storytime Mornings.
