BACK TO SCHOOL! It’s going to be a great year!  Classes begin on September 15th, but Online Registration is Open!  We are also offering Free Trial Lessons the week of September 3rd.  Activities begin the week of September 17h.  A high five to our Summer interns who helped with Lit Flicks, Front Desk and in the Classrooms!  Congratulations to our STEAMERs and HIGH DIVERS who took our Full Immersion Summer Challenges.  Theme of the Month:  Bears, bears, bears.  View the Newsletter on the Blog in Text and in Calendar Format.  Forward the newsletter to a friend!

From September 3rd we start our regular hours:  Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday mornings 9-12 and Monday to Friday afternoons from 4-7 pm.

FALL 2018/19 CLASS SCHEDULES for KIDS and ADULTS
FALL English Classes for All Ages and All Levels last 12 weeks and start on September 15th.  Registration is ONLINE.  If you are new, we will offer a mini trial lesson before our regular lessons begin.  You can register your child or yourself for a FREE TRIAL LESSON the week of September 3rd before the courses start.  Trial lessons ARE NOT offered during our regular courses.  Here is a link to the Rules for Classes. 

WEEKEND WARRIOR Full Immersion English for Adults. 
Sept. 22& 23.  1 weekend, 10 hours of Full Immersion, Infinite Fun.

INDIVIDUAL LESSONS are possible all year long.  Yes, you can! Schedule an appointment to discuss your needs.

Our 2018/19 Membership Year begins on September 1st.  The new membership cards are ready.
Here is the Membership Form.  Membership prices remain unchanged.  Euro 25 – Ridotto for Students 16 and over, Teachers and 65 and over.  Euro 35 – Intero.  Membership is valid until August 31, 2019.  Renew your membership each year to take advantage of the American Film Series, Register for Courses, Use our Library, Participate in Members Only Events.

38th AMERICAN FILM SERIES at Teatro dei Fabbri
The film series begins on Thursday, October 25th.  The dates are set and the film list will be published in October.  9 great American films in Original Version.

BEARS, BEARS, BEARS:  September Theme
In addition to readings, films, a poster display and a live webcam of bears fishing for salmon at Katmai National Park in Alaska, you can also take home your own unique Teddy Bear.  The American Corner Teddy Boys Integration through Entrepreneurship Project, encourages professional refugee tailors to put their skill to work in the production or the cutest teddy bears you’ve ever seen, using recycled materials.  Select your bear and take it home with a donation. 

20/9 10 am – 5 pm - Teddy Bear Workshop
See how a teddy bear is made from start to finish.  Meet the teddy boy team.  A guest expert from the Sewing Cooperative in Rome will also be present.

NEWS for U.S. CITIZENS
SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION at American Corner Trieste
October 9, 2018 Officials from the US Federal Social Security Administration in Rome will be in Trieste to make a presentation, accept Social Security applications and answer related questions.  By appointment only: 

MIDTERM ELECTIONS – All 50 states have Midterm elections on November 6th.  All US Citizens are eligible to vote.  Register ASAP so you will receive your absentee ballot in time.  For more info: www.fvap.gov

TESOL TRIESTE LOCAL GROUP is holding the Kick Off Meeting on September 28th at 6:00 pm to catch up after the summer break, plan future workshops, speakers and themes for the school year.  Teachers, bring your teacher friends and colleagues.  When we have workshops and seminars, you will receive MIUR Credit, enrich your C.V. and free get professional development!

HEADS UP for FALL!
CODING GIRLS will come to Trieste.  A tremendous opportunity for local high schools and their female students.  More news in October.
We are looking for a mentor for TEEN MAKER SPACE on Friday afternoons, someone to head the KNIT WITS group, a heavy duty sewing machine.

VOLUNTEERS
We are a Volunteer Run Non-Profit Association.
Volunteers run our Library, American Corner Programs and Activities.  We are looking for Volunteers to Mentor and Manage the Teen Maker Club, Assist with the Nati per Leggere program, Work at the Cinema, Help with our Morning Activities at the Front Desk and in the Library. Send us an email.  We’ll find a role for you.  University of Trieste students in Humanities, P.R. and other majors can earn Internship Credit Hours with us (CFU).   We accept students with a minimum of 75 hours (3 CFU).  You'll have a great experience and improve your English, while you also learn valuable life and people skills. High School Students can also do Alternanza Scuola Lavoro.  Contact us!  aia.fvg@gmail.com 

AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE – Since 2007, we have been part of the American Spaces Network.  Programs, consultation of the library, public internet access computers, and Wi-Fi are always free and open to the public.  A great place to study, meet friends, bring your kids.  Specific sections of the library are dedicated to Educational Advising, Children’s Corner Library and Women’s Space.  Consult our on line catalog of Books and DVDs.   The American Corner also offers Life Skills in English Courses for Refugees thanks to a U.S. Department of State Grant and the US Diplomatic Mission to Italy.
