Prodotto da Pilgrim Film (Chiara Barbo, Andrea Magnani) che hanno prodotto "Le Ragazze di Trieste" e con il patrocinio dell'Ambasciata USA in Italia.

Frutto di un lavoro iniziato due e mezzo anni fa dall'Associazione Italo Americana FVG / American Corner Trieste, il film documentario consiste in interviste con Triestini che raccontano i loro giorni americani 1945-1954.  Interviste, filmati e foto d'epoca.  ( Intervistati:  Augusta Accettulli ,Nino Benvenuti,  Guido Botteri, Gino Cancelli, Giulia Colombis , Callisto Cosulich, Aldo D'Eliso,  Mario de Luyk,  Piero Dorfles,  Giuliana Iaschi,  Anna Illy,  Feliciana Johnson,  Fabia Nicolich, Marco Simic, Nereo Svara)


"Trieste, città cosmopolita al centro della nuova Europa, mescola caratteri mediterranei e mitteleuropei che ne hanno determinato lo spirito, non convenzionale, spesso ironico.

Nel secolo scorso Trieste è stata attraversata dalla storia, drammatica, della seconda guerra mondiale. A contendersi la città da una parte l'Italia, che precedentemente governava Trieste, e dall'altra la Jugoslavia comunista di Tito. Ma divenne evidente da subito che la contrapposizione era più grande e la frattura più ampia: chi si confrontava a Trieste così come a Berlino, all'indomani del 1945, erano il blocco così detto occidentale e quello sovietico.

Nel trattato di Parigi del 1947 nasceva così il Territorio Libero di Trieste con un Governo Militare Alleato garantito dalle forze armate anglo-americane. Ma sono stati soprattutto gli americani a lasciare una traccia indelebile nel ricordo dei triestini, e talvolta anche nelle abitudini della vita stessa della città e della sua quotidianità

Nel documentario si alternano le facce e le voci di uomini e donne che all'epoca erano bambini, e agli americani andavo a chiedere i chewing gum e la cioccolata; ragazze che insegnavano alla scuola materna americana o lavoravano alla radio americana; ragazzi che in quegli anni mettevano in piedi a Trieste le prime squadre di baseball o giocavano a basket in partite improvvisate con i militari americani. E accanto a loro, qualche nome e qualche volto noto, come Anna Illy, e altri che da Trieste poi sono partiti per realizzare sogni, carriere, successi: Callisto Cosulich, Nino Benvenuti, per citarne solo alcuni."

La Shipyard Big Band di Monfalcone è stata fondata nel settembre del 1986 da un gruppo di appassionati di questo genere musicale.
Da quasi trent’anni anni proponiamo il jazz nei suoi aspetti più storici ed anche godibili.  Siamo una ventina di elementi con una grande esperienza musicale, diretti da Maestro Flavio Davanzo, notissimo trombettista, compositore, didatta.  Davanzo viene annoverato fra i maggiori talenti espressi dalla scuola jazzistica italiana.
La Big Band si è esibita in numerose manifestazioni e festival come al Muggia Jazz Festival (TS), Trieste Love Jazz, festival della musica di Majano, a Grado (GO), a Stanjel (SLO), Mestre e Monfalcone (GO). Inoltre vanta una produzione R.A.I Tv dove l'orchestra insieme a due cori misti si esibisce per la realizzazione dei Concerti Sacri di Duke Ellington. Tale lavoro è stato trasmesso più volte, e ancora viene trasmesso, sui canali Rai.
Il nostro organico comprende musicisti esperti e nuovi giova ni talenti, cioè studenti dei Conservatori e delle Accademie di jazz della Regione. In questi ultimi 3 anni di attività ci siamo concentrati sul repertorio Big Band del mainstream ovvero il repertorio classico della Swing Era legato agli anni 40 e ai famosi standard.
Obiettivo della Shipyard Big Band, oltre a continuare ad esibirsi suonando il repertorio classico, anche quello, seppure molto ambizioso, di reintrodurre il ballo swing. Per questo motivo lavoriamo per la realizzazione di un repertorio adeguato con arrangiamenti originali di Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington e molti altri ancora.

1954-2014: The 60th Anniversary of the departure of TRUST (TRieste US Troops) from Trieste.

An entire month of activities in commemoration: The Trieste USA 1945- 1954 Photo Exhibit in Le Vie delle Foto Series, Speakers, Documentaries, Films.

The main event, Our American Days – I Nostri Giorni Americani, October 25th, at the Sala Tripcovich with the documentary:  Our American Days – I Nostri Giorni Americani, a Concert:  Sounds of the 1940’s by the Shipyard Big Band and a display of TRUST Uniforms, Memorabilia and US Jeeps.

 
Many thanks to the City of Trieste, the US Embassy in Italy, Ugo Borsatti, Pilgrim Film, Associazione Culturale Marino Simic, the Shipyard Big Band and to all the people who shared their memories with us.

TEEN CLUB - ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING -
Calling all Teens!

For kids from Middle School and High School.
Open to all - Bring your Friends!  You don't have to be a member.

This first meeting you will decide what you want to do.

Lego Mindstorms, Movies, Games, Wii, Karaoke, Hang out, Projects? The group will be what the teens decide they want it to be! Adult supervision. Activities in English! Bring your friends. We want to make this an activity for every Friday afternoon!
