Women's History Month - Friday Documentaries in March



March is dedicated to Women's History Month. In addition to our Friday Documentaries, we will also have a special guest speaker on March 16th - Karen Hartman, from the US Embassy Rome will speak about women's rights.

Dr. Eugene Richardson, Jr. , a veteran Tuskegee Airman born in 1925, will speak on his experience as an Afro-American pilot in the Tuskegee Air Corps during World War II and the changes that later came about thanks to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. It is a great honor to have Dr. Richardson with us. What a fitting conclusion to Black History Month. Don’t miss this opportunity!

A foodie tour of the US without leaving Trieste. This initiative has been made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the US Embassy Rome and US Consulate Milan. The true story of Barbara Conrad Smith, a gifted mezzo soprano at the University of Texas in 1957. She found herself in the middle of a Civil Rights battle, when the University was forced by the Texas legislature to cancel her from the leading role because she was Afro-American. Ms. Conrad Smith went on to sing leading roles in major opera companies around the world including the Metropolitan Opera and the Vienna Opera. 73 minutes.

American Cooking School is back with Lesson 2: New Orleans: Cajun

A gastronomic tour of the US without leaving Trieste.

The response to El Paso: Tex-Mex was so phenomenal that we will try to offer this course 2 evenings. Chef Andrea Tamburini will teach us to create the specialities of this unique city.

The course is held in ENGLISH and at the end of the lesson the participants will taste the special dishes that have been prepared.

The session scheduled for Thursday March 15th at 6 p.m. is already full.If we can get a minimum group of 10 people for a second session we will also offer it on Wednesday, March 14th, 6 p.m.

Cost: €45 per person, members only (not a member yet? no problem... you can still become one and enjoy all the other benefits of AIA FVG - cinema, library, programs, etc. Membership: €35 - adults, €25 - students, teachers, over 65).

Pass by the AIA FVG office to register and to pay prior to the course.

After his military service, Dr. Richardson, continued his education, got a Doctorate in Education thanks to the GI Bill and became a school principal in Phildelphia. Now retired, Dr. Richardson visits schools around the country speaking of his experience and the Civil Rights Movement.

President Obama just paid tribute to the service of the Tuskegee Airmen, who were his guests of honor at the White House last month for the screening of the new film "Red Wings" by George Lucas starring Cuba Gooding Jr. Last week Dr. Richardson was the keynote speaker for Black History Month at Vanderbilt University. Here is a video about the visit of the Tuskegee Airmen to the White House.
